Seaweed Insights Platform

In 2022, Hatch Blue, supported by the Nest,  produced an open-source knowledge platform for global seaweed farming based on our extensive in-field research across 15 regions in Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia,  South Korea, Japan, and remotely in China.

This platform provides global and country-level insights into the top 5 commercially produced seaweed species on current utilisation, production volumes, a projected outlook, and supply chain setups for each species covered. In addition, based on first-hand information that we collected from +100 farm visits across the most significant seaweed production hotspots across Asia, our farm insights section presents a step-by-step process, where we cover more than 50 data points across site selection, farm design, to seeding, deployment, grow out, harvesting and primary processing methods, as well as sales, farmers socio-demographics, and challenges. This offers practical insights into the reality of the seaweed cultivation industry today. To date, our Seaweed Insights have been visited by +20.000 individuals from more than 100 countries.
