Hatch celebrates raising €75 million for Blue Revolution Fund

Hatch Blue has announced that is has now raised €75 million for its Blue Revolution Fund, helping to reinforce the organisation's commitment to advancing sustainable aquaculture practices.

Hatch Blue’s second close of its Blue Revolution Fund marks a key milestone, raising €75 million to further support innovation and sustainability in global aquaculture. Co-founder Georg Baunach highlighted that while the process took longer than expected, Hatch is now well-positioned to collaborate closely with entrepreneurs where they can add the most value. Institutional investors, whose commitments have increased compared to the first close, are crucial to driving the impact investment ecosystem.

Notable investors include the European Investment Fund (EIF), the Irish Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF), and Germany's Rentenbank. Marjut Falkstedt, CEO of the EIF, expressed support for the fund’s mission to promote innovation in the aquaculture sector, aligned with the EU’s goals for a sustainable blue economy. ISIF's senior investment director, Cathal Fitzgerald, noted that Ireland’s marine resources present opportunities for sustainable growth and employment.

The fund has already made significant early investments in innovative ventures, including:

  • New School Foods (Canada): Developing plant-based seafood alternatives with a unique animal-like texture and cooking experience.
  • DeNova (Canada): Aiming to replace soy and fish meal in aquafeeds with sustainable single-cell protein.
  • Wholechain (USA): Offering a SaaS traceability solution for multiple protein and non-protein supply chains.
  • CageEye (Norway): Utilizing echo-sound technology to optimize fish feeding processes, particularly for salmon.
  • ChucaoTec (Ireland/Chile): Introducing nanobubble oxygenation technology to enhance oxygenation practices in salmon and shrimp farming.
  • These investments reflect Hatch’s commitment to driving positive change across the aquaculture landscape
