Strategy
The Nature Conservancy commissioned Hatch Blue Consulting to conduct a comprehensive policy gap analysis for seaweed aquaculture in three critical regions—Tanzania, Kenya, and Indonesia. This project aimed to evaluate the existing policy landscape, identify gaps, and recommend strategies to foster sustainable growth in the seaweed sector.
While Tanzania, Kenya, and Indonesia have made efforts to develop their domestic seaweed cultivation industries, regulatory standards remain inconsistent and underdeveloped. There is a critical need for robust policies that ensure environmentally sustainable and economically viable practices. Without clear guidelines, the seaweed industry risks potential negative environmental impacts and inefficient growth.
Hatch Blue utilized a multi-faceted approach to assess the current state of seaweed aquaculture governance in each country. By equipping local authorities and industry players with strategic insights and recommendations, the project is expected to drive better policy decisions, foster sustainable growth, and contribute to stronger, more resilient seaweed sector in these regions.
